2018 Georgia State Amateur Championship

DATE: July 23rd thru 25th 

SITE: Cartersville Country Club

FORMAT:  The Competition is 54 holes of Stroke Play. The qualifying scores determine flight formation for the final 18 holes of the Tournament. The field shall be the 45  lowest handicap index entries for the Championship Tees and the 45 lowest handicap index entries for the Tournament Tees. 

The GEORGIA WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPION shall be the competitor playing from the Championship tees with the lowest total score. Ties for Champion will result in a playoff.  Anyone with a 5.4 or lower must play from the Championship Tees.  Anyone with a 10.0 handicap index or less may elect to play from the Championship Tees and must check the box on the application. All other competitors will play from the Tournament Tees. The competitor in the Tournament Tee Division with the lowest total score shall be the winner of the Tournament Tee Division. There is no playoff in this division. A tie will be broken matching scorecards to determine the Tournament Tee Winner. All other ties in Championship and Tournament divisions will be resolved by matching scorecards in accordance with procedures set forth by the USGA, adopted by the GWGA Tournament Committee and published in the Tournament Notice to Competitors.  Tee selections may not be changed after the close of entries. 

ELIGIBILTY:  Competitors must be residents of Georgia and be members of GWGA. A player may join GWGA until the close of entry – July 9.

ENTRY:  The Entry Fee is $225.  The entry fee covers the green fees, carts, bag tag, practice balls and Champions Banquetafter Sunday’s practice round.  Club storage is not available. There is a 90 player limit for entries. After that, names will be placed on a waiting list.

Entries are accepted from GWGA members based on the July 15thhandicap index revision. 

The Competitor List will be posted on the GWGA web site (  An email will be sent as confirmation of each registration form received.  

A $20 service charge will be retained on all refunds granted prior to close of entries (July 9).  Entry fees will not be refunded after the close of entries unless there is a waiting list and your spot can be filled.

The Tournament Committee reserves the right, at their discretion, to extend the deadline for applications. When the field is full for either set of tees, the additional entries are placed on a waiting list, numbered from lowest to highest handicap index and phoned in that order to fill vacancies created by withdrawals.

REGULATIONS:  The tournament shall be played in accordance with the USGA RULES OF GOLF and Policies and Procedures established by the Georgia Women’s Golf Association. 


Competitors shall wear appropriate golf attire. Only non-metal spikes are permitted. 


Caddies will be permitted for all competitors. Pull carts and push carts are not permitted. 


The Board of Directors reserves the right to approve or reject entries and refund deposited money at any time before and throughout the competition. 

The Tournament Committee reserves the right to review competitors’ adjusted Georgia Women’s Amateur Championship Tournament scores with regard to appropriate posting to that player’s handicap records. 

Distance Measuring Devices are allowed to measure distance only. The use of devices that gauge or measure other conditions that might affect a player’s play (e.g. wind or gradient)are not permitted.

Optional condition as prescribed in Appendix I is in effect, page 136. (Distance only, no other function even if turned off)  


A practice round is available Saturday (July 21st)orSunday (July 22nd) prior to tournament play at the $35 rate.  Be sure to identify yourself as a GWGA competitor to get the $35 rate.  Tee times begin at 8:20 A.M.  Practice Areas will be open 7:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Call 770-382-1611 for tee times. Practice round including cart is $35 (CASH and VISA/MC/Discover/AMEX credit cards) payable in the golf shop. 


There will be food and beverages available on the course.  Cash payment only is accepted on the course.

There will be a limited breakfast that offers sausage biscuits and fruit cups available for purchase.

Monday there will be a soup and salad bar along with limited sandwich choices available at 11:00.

Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the restaurant will be open for normal hours 11:00-3:00.


The ELEANOR M. KEELER MEMORIAL TROPHY is awarded to the Champion.*

  •  The ELEANOR KEELER TROPHY is awarded to the Second Place (Runner-Up) in the Tournament.*

  • The BILLIE WICKLIFFE TROPHY (formerly known as the MEDALIST TROPHY) is awarded to the competitor with the lowest qualifying score.*

  •  The CEIL MACLAURIN (formerly known as the GOLFER TROPHY) will be awarded to the player with the lowest 18 hole score during tournament play.*

  • The BURNS CUP is awarded to the Senior (50 years or older) with the lowest qualifying score. Note: An eligible competitor must declare intent to compete for the trophy on her entry or before entries close.*

  •  The DOAK CUP is awarded to the club with two members who have the lowest aggregate qualifying score. NOTE: A competitor who is a member of more than one club must designate on her entry form the club for which she is competing and may not change that designation after the close of entry.*

  • The HOLE IN ONE TROPHY is awarded to the competitor(s) scoring a hole in one in the competition. 

THREE PRIZES are awarded in each Flight--Winner, Runner-Up and Third.  The Champion and Runner-Up shall be lifted from the Championship Flight they are in and shall not qualify for flight prizes.  Tournament Tee Winner will be presented an award. The Tournament Tee Winner shall be lifted from the Tournament Tee Flight she is in and shall not qualify for flight prize.  Only Runner-Up and Third place prizes will be awarded in that flight.

  • Super Senior will be presented an award.  A player must be 65+ and play from the Tournament Tees.

Each winner above will receive an engraved trophy to keep.  The GWGA Perpetual Trophies awarded above are traditionally housed with the GWGA trophy chair.  Should any winner wish to house their respective trophy for the year, approval may be requested from the trophy committee.
